The PMBus-IF is again a major participant in, and platinum sponsor of, the 2008 Digital Power Forum (DPF) 2008-09-15–17, San Francisco, California. PMBus presentations and seminars are held there.

Many PMBus™ adopter companies will be present, and several PMBus marketing and publicity efforts will take place, at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC), 2008-02-24–28, Austin, Texas.

The PMBus-IF is again (as in 2006) a major participant in, and platinum sponsor of, the 2007 Digital Power Forum (DPF) 2007-09-10–12, San Francisco, California. PMBus presentations and seminars are held there.

September 2006

On the first day of Darnell’s Digital Power Forum (DPF) 2006, 2006-09-18, Intel VP Thomas Macdonald announces that Intel is joining the PMBus group as an adopter. This is reported in Darnell’s PowerPulse.

The PMBus-IF is a Platinum Sponsor of the Digital Power Forum (DPF) 2006 in Dallas, 2006-09-18–20, which is a very successful event for the PMBus organization and the PMBus standard. Other Platinum Sponsors include PMBus adopter companies Texas Instruments, ROAL Electronics, and Primarion.
The PMBus-IF chairs the DPF Tuesday afternoon (2006-09-19) presentations; the topic is “Digital Power—Solving real problems for OEMs.”

As Revision 1.0 of the protocol specification nears completion, the PMBus Implementors Forum has established several new working groups to address related issues. In addition to the existing protocol specification group, there are six other working groups being formed to address the following:

  • Reference GUI (Graphical User Interface)
  • Production Programming
  • User’s Manual
  • Compliance Testing And Assurance
  • Bridges To Other Transports And Protocols
  • PMBus Promotion & Marketing

The chairs for these working groups are actively recruiting new particpants as team members. You can contribute if you have joined SMIF and become a PMBus adopters. SMIF members can access the Members Home, which shows contact emails for the working group chairs.

The System Management Interface Forum (SMIF) is now incorporated as a non-profit corporation, promoting both the SBS (Smart Battery System) specifications and enhancements to battery and power management in portable systems, and the recently added PMBus (Power Management Bus) initiative. The specification and driver ownership for Smart Battery System still resides with the SBS-IF, while ownership of the specification and future related efforts for the new PMBus initiative resides with the new PMBus Implementers Forum. Any paid-up SMIF member can become an adopter of either or both standards by signing that standards’s adopters agreement.
